Blagdon Lake Birds

Black-winged Pratincole Glareola nordmanni (JG Fischer von Waldheim, 1842)

(Extremely rare vagrant PM)

  1.  One, juvenile, 28th August 1993 (A.E. Bone, R.G. Palmer, R. Abram, R.M. Andrews et al.)

First noted in the field behind the Top End hide by Alan Bone, Roger Palmer and Ron Abrams the bird flew up and was identified as a Pratincole sp. and then flew towards the lake where Richard Andrews saw it at Bell's Bush when it flew in to land. A fox put it up again and the assembled crowd eventually decided that it was a Black-winged Pratincole Glareola nordmanni. The bird was seen at Chew Valley Lake later the same day.
